How does ethnocentricity cause conflict?

On January 26th of year 1788, British first came to the land called Sydney, in Australia. From that island, they found ‘First Australians’ who were described as numbed in the book ‘The Rabbits’ and later they called by ‘Aboriginals’. First time, this contact seems very happy and pleasant to each other. However, their different culture and ethnocentrism caused them to raise a war, which lead by British people.

As British and native Australian had a different ethnocentrism, they become incompatible with each other. However, during that time British already made their mind to take over the Australia, because they thought no one own those lands, because they thought native Australians were not a human, they thought they are animal. From native Australian point of view, they felt dumbfounded, because native Australian owned their lands and British people suddenly came to invade their lands, which were well owned and used by native Australian. When those two situations or ethnocentrism met each other, they solved that problem in severe ways. This is because; they started to kill each other.

After they started a war, the relationships between native Australian and British become extremely worse and both caused some conflicts each other. For example, one native Australian guy called Pamulway burnt all the crops that British made. Also, eh killed the British colonist called McIntyre. Finally, he caught by British and he chopped his head, then his head transported to England. This conflict shows how seriously they hate each other. Other conflict they had was that, the nation called Wiradjuri resist to British, lead by Wndradyne. However, from that war, British won very easily, because British had high technologic weapons. Finally, native Australians asked for peace to British.

These whole situations were started by dramatically different ethnocentrism and cultures. If they had some sympathy between them, they would not go that far, which was killing each other. Surprisingly, both of them extremely hated each other, because; native Australians called British ‘Red devil’ and British called native Australians as ‘Black devils’.

Julius Caesar: Solo/Duet Performance Assessment

Julius Caesar - Act one, Scene 1, line 33~ 76.

1. State the context of the passage (This is only 1-2 sentences).

(Rome, a street) Commoners try to celebrate Caesar’s victory, but Marullus and Flavius stop them and scold them for not doing their work on workday.

2.Explain the meaning and the significance of the passage (This is a well- developed paragraph).

Meaning: Simply, this paragraph and scene is saying that, Flavius and Marullus hate Caesar and having some struggles with plebians. However, if we understand this paragraph deeply, this paragraph means that, if Caesar become a king, which can emphasize as ‘Dictator’ whole Rome will going to in panic. As a result, Marullus and Flavius try to stop Caesar’s dictatorship.

Significance: The paragraph, which Kevin and I choose was very significant, because it shows the great foreshadowing that, they will going to stop Caesar to become a king. Therefore they said ‘These growing feathers plucked from Caesar’s wing / Will make him fly an ordinary pitch’ and this sentence means that, they going to kill or lowering down Caesar to not become a king of Rome. Surprisingly, now Caesar is dead by conspirators, so Shakespeare shows this scene for predict or show what will going to happen. As a result, we can say that, this chapter foreshadows whole stories that will going to happen in next chapters.

Paragraphs:

MARULLUS

Wherefore rejoice? What conquest brings he home?
What tributaries follow him to Rome,
To grace in captive bonds his chariot-wheels?
You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things!
O you hard hearts, you cruel men of Rome,
Knew you not Pompey? Many a time and oft
Have you climb'd up to walls and battlements,
To towers and windows, yea, to chimney-tops,
Your infants in your arms, and there have sat
The livelong day, with patient expectation,
To see great Pompey pass the streets of Rome:
And when you saw his chariot but appear,
Have you not made an universal shout,
That Tiber trembled underneath her banks,
To hear the replication of your sounds
Made in her concave shores?
And do you now put on your best attire?
And do you now cull out a holiday?
And do you now strew flowers in his way
That comes in triumph over Pompey's blood? Be gone!
Run to your houses, fall upon your knees,
Pray to the gods to intermit the plague
That needs must light on this ingratitude.

FLAVIUS

Go, go, good countrymen, and, for this fault,
Assemble all the poor men of your sort;
Draw them to Tiber banks, and weep your tears
Into the channel, till the lowest stream
Do kiss the most exalted shores of all.

(Exeunt all the Commoners)

See where their basest metal be not moved;
They vanish tongue-tied in their guiltiness.
Go you down that way towards the Capitol;
This way will I
disrobe the images,
If you do find them deck'd with ceremonies.

MARULLUS

May we do so?
You know it is the feast of Lupercal.

FLAVIUS

It is no matter; let no images
Be hung with Caesar's trophies. I'll about,
And drive away the vulgar from the streets:
So do you too, where you perceive them thick.
These growing feathers pluck'd from Caesar's wing
Will make him fly an ordinary pitch,
Who else would soar above the view of men
And keep us all in servile fearfulness.

Exeunt

Learning Profile

Learning Profile

Insung Jung Feb/7th

2weeks ago, in humanities class, we discussed about what is our learning profile. First time, when I heard about ‘Learning profile’ I thought it would be very boring and sleepy. However, it wasn’t boring as I thought, it was interesting! Maybe it was because of our teachers’ great effort to engage us to ‘Learning profile’ program. It was not only funny and interesting, but also important to us, giving great information about ‘how to study’.

The identification of individual’s ‘Learning profile’ gives enormous helps to their own decision making related to studying. There are diverse “learning profiles’ which is distinguished by individuals, and myself was indentified as ‘profile D’. Profile D is a very unique profile, compare to other profiles. This is because, while I was testing what I profile I was, I found that most of my friends have similarities between their body parts. For example, one of my friend has had a profile K, and he’s ear, hand and foot is all right side. However, Profile D doesn’t have many similarities that other profiles have. However, Mr. Whiting told us that, because our learning profile is strange, it doesn’t mean its wrong, it can be more special and unique.

The advantage of Profile D is that, they are learning easily, when they educated by visualized things. As a result, compare to other subject, they are better than art or digital classes. If, visualized person learn some subject by only reading or writing, their grade will going to keep decrease. Therefore, I planned to learn some subjects by visuals.

Questions

1. I learn best when...

I learn some subjects by visual.

2. I need to...

Improve on concentration, when I write or read a article or book.

3. The strategies that would help me in my learning...

Is, imagine or make a simple picture about, how, when and why, so I could understand more easily.

4.I would like my teachers to know this about me...

I feel really thanks about your showing videos about Caesar. This is because; I cannot not totally understand the reading, when I only read my book. However, as I watch the video, I can easily understand.
